Hillside homes keep it quiet.

A complex of 12 single family homes serves families with incomes up to 60% of San Francisco's area medium income. Five prototypical designs were used to hug a previously vacant hillside of surplus land acquired from BART at the southern border of San Francisco. Special measures were taken to ensure acoustical isolation from the nearby BART tracks. Each solar-powered home, ranging in living area between 1200 and 1400 square feet, consists of either three or four bedrooms with two baths and a private yard.
